Back up, restore, and take your studio anywhere

No account, no login, no server copy. Your studio lives on your device — which means it's on you to keep a copy. Here's exactly what each option does.

CrafterTill doesn't have an account or a cloud sync. Everything you enter — every piece, sale, purchase, show, and setting — lives in your browser, on the device you're using. Nothing about your studio sits on someone else's server, and nothing leaves your device unless you tell it to.

The tradeoff is that it's on you to keep a copy. Below are the three tools for that, and what each one actually does.

Settings → Your data is yours, and it's on this device

Back up now

Writes a single .json file with everything in your studio — every piece, sale, purchase, show, customer, cost, and setting, photos included. It's a plain, readable file, yours to keep wherever you'd like: a cloud drive, an external drive, wherever you keep things you don't want to lose.

There's no automatic or scheduled backup — it only happens when you click the button. If your studio matters to you, make it a habit: after a big show, at the end of the month, whenever you've entered a stretch of new pieces.

Restore from file

Loads a .json backup back into CrafterTill. A couple of things worth knowing about how it works:

  • It fully replaces what's currently in the app. Restoring isn't a merge — it clears everything out first, then loads in whatever's in the file.
  • It's all-or-nothing. If anything fails partway through, nothing changes — you're left with what you had before, not a half-restored mess.
  • You'll get a confirmation prompt before it runs, since this is the one action that can genuinely erase your work.
⚠ Not a merge

Whatever was in the app before the restore is gone unless it's also in the file you're restoring. This is what you'd use to move your studio to a new device: back up on the old one, restore on the new one.

Export everything (CSV)

Writes your inventory, sales log, and materials purchase log out as spreadsheet files — the kind you open in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers. Built for reading and working with your numbers outside the app: sharing with an accountant, building your own charts, whatever spreadsheet work you want to do.

⚠ One-way

CSV export is for getting your data out to look at it — there's no matching "import from CSV" to bring spreadsheet edits back in. If you need a full copy you can restore later, that's what Back up now is for. CSV export also doesn't include photos; only the full JSON backup does.

Whichever you use, remember: this is all sitting on your device. If you clear your browser data, switch computers, or something happens to the device, your studio only survives if you've backed it up somewhere else first.
